During the late 1960s, the Swedish procurement office ordered Volvo to produce a Bandvagn 206 accessories as part of its quest to replace its Studebaker M29 Weasel. The resulting vehicle would enter service in 1981, with serial deliveries beginning in March. The Bv 206 is a three-wheeled vehicle with a 185 cm wide body. It can also be upgraded with wider axels of 200 or 220 cm.The 206 has a number of features that were not found on the previous Bandvagn 202 model. For instance, the vehicle uses a Ford 2658E V6 petrol engine that delivers 135 horsepower. It also has removable tracks and longer leaf springs. The vehicle has a surprisingly long range, allowing it to be picked up from 1600 m away without the need for a separation.Besides its original purpose, the Bv 206 serves as a personal and material transporter, an amphibious transport vehicle, a weapon carrier for anti-tank weapons and a mortar carrier.
